Student Art Auction

During our September 1st Thursdays Gallery Walk in Downtown Bay City, students from Northood University had 4 hours to complete original works of art that was subsequently judged for competition. Now, these works are for sale through the auction link below.

For this 1st Thursday’s Auction, 1/2 the proceeds will go back to the artist and 1/2 of the proceeds will go to “Bay Arts Council/1st Thursdays” to keep the Gallery Walk moving forward!

Winning bidders are entitled to have their art framed for %25 off at Golden Gallery & Custom Framing.

Downtown Bay City, Where the Arts and Business Meet!

September is back-to-school time, and 1st Thursday’s will highlight the creative sides of art and business. Northwood University faculty is excited to offer mini presentations at two locations in downtown Bay City where you can get tips and advice from the experts!

“I’m thinking I may bring a couple of adventure ed activities and demonstrate (and engage visitors in the space); I may then discuss the benefits of such activities in combination to standard curriculum to build creative problem solving and to strengthen communication channels… Should be fun for participants.”

Area Art Faculty and students will showcase Instructors and students past and present.
Golden Gallery, Do- Art, Studio 23, and East Bank Market will be hosting the work of their instructors/resident artists and various local shops will be hosting the work of past and present students of these artists.

Art Contest!- The local galleries/studios/colleges have been invited to enter in a live art competition from 3pm to 7pm. The contest will begin at 3pm and end at 7pm and, weather permitting, will be En Plein Air in front of various business around town. All entries will be turned in at Golden Gallery, 113 3rd St. by 7:15pm for judging. The artwork will then be promoted on the “1st Thursdays” website for two weeks in an online auction for local charity!

Freezie’s Photo Booth will be at Golden Gallery from 5-8pm so stop on by with your friends and get your picture taken for free!

Pies for Domestic Peace- Come down to East Bank Market at Unity Park where several local personalities and professionals are on tap to get pies in the face for a good cause. Tonight’s event runs from 5-8pm and tickets are only $5 with proceeds going to benefit the Bay Area Women’s Center.

Each sponsored pie taker will have a can with their name on it. Place your ticket in the can of the “celebrity” you would like to cream and you are entered in the raffle for the right to do so. Drawings to determine the pie tossers will take place throughout the 7:00 hour. When the drawings are complete, the whipped cream pies take flight!

In addition to pies flying at your neighbors’ faces, there will be a pie bake-off and a few pies for you to sample at each of the participating galleries during the Gallery Walk. Cast your vote for the best pie recipe by pitching coins in a jar. Winners will be announced at East Bank Market at the end of the evening. All proceeds from this event will also go to the B.A.W.S.

Northwood University presents: “Where the arts meet business”

This June 7th mark your calendars for the 1st Thursdays in Downtown Bay City! It will be an exciting evening as Northwood University presents “Where the arts meet business”.

The 2012 Chalkwalk will also be happening where artists will be taking to the streets decorating downtown in original chalk art work! There will be prizes, live music, and even a kids area!

Stop in to Golden Gallery and learn more about the creative side of business from Northwood advisors.

Enjoy fine art, eats, drinks, prize drawings and good conversation!

April 5th 1st Thursdays!

Come downtown on April 5th and view the exciting and fresh new works by students, staff and even alumni of Saginaw Valley State University. Each downtown participant will host a different venue of works ranging from pottery to paintings. To go along with the event will be live music, food, and good friends!
The venue for the evening will also feature poetry/spoken word by students and other area guests.
So grab a friend and come share in the unique culture of downtown Bay City!

C.A.T.WORKS will host the public opening of CARL THOMAS’S memorial show this Thursday Dec 1st , at the gallery 514 Wash. Ave. 5-9 pm. We also will be featuring the opening of our annex gallery next door , showing the work of many local artists.

There will be no 1st Thursdays during the months of November, December, and January. But there is still plenty to do and see downtown in Bay City. Make sure to come down town and check out all the shops, restaurants, and businesses. Holiday shopping has never been easier, or more convenient!

1st Thursdays in Downtown Bay City celebrates ‘Made in Michigan’ featuring local art, live music, and great food at a variety of Downtown businesses.

1st Thursdays in Downtown Bay City is a monthly community event featuring art, live music, shopping and dining. The August 4th event features a salsa contest at seven downtown restaurants, a street party on 3rd St., highlighted by a “Doggy Fashion Show” at 6:30 p.m. and a tasting of Arcadia Ales and Tri-City Brewing Company’s best beers at the Golden Gallery and Ward Studio.

The Golden Gallery, Ward Studio and numerous other downtown shops and restaurants are proud to present a multi-disciplinary showing of work and live music.

The event will take place in Downtown Bay City, MI on Thursday, August 4, 2011 from 5-8 p.m. and is proudly sponsored by Chemical Bank and Meadowbrook Insurance.

August’s 1st Thursday This Week!

On August 5th, there will be fun and excitement as we are planning a fashion show with new cars and downtown fashions. We are also closing the street in front of Golden Gallery & Custom Framing for the evening. There will also be classic cars on display, and street magicians. There will be art, culture, cars, food and more! Cruise on down in your own ride and check out all the fun.
